Who am I? Where Did I Come From? Where am I Going?

Greetings fellow Art Spelunkers, and welcome again to “Notes From The Artcave”. (With apologies to Fyodor Dostoyevsky, and his “Notes From Underground”)

For those of you who don’t know me, may I take the time to introduce myself? My name is Jeff Weispfenning. I am a 40 something artist, husband and blogger living in Minneapolis, MN. Originally from Moorhead, MN, I moved to Minneapolis 14 years ago to start a new life with my Sarah. With little money, no job and an old Mercury Lynx station wagon, I packed up my belongings and headed for the big city.

As a kid, I never really thought I could be an artist, although I was constantly drawing funny pictures. I always thought I’d eventually become an architect or engineer or something like that. When I was at Moorhead State University, I started taking painting courses in 1994, but had already studied graphic arts for a few years. I never really knew what I wanted my major to be, but after many wayward years, searching, I decided on Art. After finding my way in Painting and meeting my future wife to be, I finally graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1997!

In Minneapolis, I married Sarah, and bought this 100 year old house in the Longfellow neighborhood of south Minneapolis. The basement studio, called the Artcave, is where I paint.

Every year, I open my studio doors for the annual League of Longfellow Artists (LOLA) Art Crawl, where over 100 artists do the same. For 2 days, the public tries to walk or ride around Longfellow, looking at as much art as they can, hopefully buying some along the way! I also have been active in the “Art-A-Whirl” art crawl in Northeast Minneapolis.

This year in July, I am planning to have a one man exhibition in Moorhead at the Rourke Art Gallery. It will be my first show in my home town, but I participate in the Rourke group show, the “Midwestern Invitational Exhibition” every year. The Rourke Art Gallery and Museum are some of the Red River Valley’s finest art venues and I am proud to be showing my work there! (more information to come.)

Stay tuned to “Notes From The Artcave” for more exciting topics in the future! In the meantime, be sure to visit my Facebook page and click the “LIKE” button.

(Many THANKS to my brother, Jim, for setting up this website! Thanks also, to my wife Sarah! I love you!)
