Why Am I Selecting Specific Pieces For My Show?

Posted on: May 26th, 2012 by Jeff Weispfenning No Comments

As you know, I am busy getting ready for my exhibition in July!  But how do I pick which paintings to bring?  Most of my paintings could be construed as comparable, mainly because they were painted by one artist, in my particular manner of working.  Paintings from different timeframes may not look quite the same, but you can see they have certain qualities that are similar.  I feel as if the pieces I pick must work together as a cohesive whole, must have similar qualities or subject matter, and must all fit under a certain title idea.

Yes, I am rejecting certain paintings as not good enough or not representative of the work I am doing now.  I have in my studio many pieces that fail to hold up, so they will never see the light of day.  Others are good, perhaps, but would not work for the show.  My wife also helps me, since she is emotionally separated from each piece.  It’s a half dozen of one and 6 of another!

In any event, if you want to see what paintings I have chosen, you’ll just have to wait until my show opens, then please visit!  I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed!
