The Alpha and The Omega – 2005

This painting was done for the Rourke Art Museum’s Midwestern Exhibition on the theme “Religion”. I wanted to make an old fashioned altarpiece out of three panels. The main middle canvas shows Mary, holding the Christ child. She has a halo on her head and the Holy Spirit sits upon her. The side panels contain smaller figures of a nun and a king, both paying homage to the Lord.

On the bottom is Beelzebub, in the form of an animal-like monster, ever present and vigilant . Also, there are wine bottles and chalices foreshadowing the last supper. On the tops of the side panels, I painted two perfect squares, one black and the other with the Earth, before and after. “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
